Dubois already lost in that scuffle as you see… I was expecting him to turn around and run away.
The two heavyweights first met on August 26, 2023, when Dubois entered as the WBA mandatory challenger. Despite his youth and raw power, Dubois was stopped in the 9th round by a short right hand — effectively giving up rather than being decisively knocked out.
Usyk’s Historic Journey to Undisputed Glory 🏆🇺🇦
In April 2024, Usyk made history by defeating Tyson Fury and becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion in 25 years. However, due to a contractual rematch clause with Fury, Usyk was forced to vacate his IBF title as he couldn’t face IBF mandatory challenger Dubois in time.
Now, Usyk aims to become the undisputed champion once again by reclaiming the IBF title against Dubois on July 19.

Dubois’ Questionable Build-Up 💥🤔
During the promotion, Dubois and his team heavily focused on a controversial low blow from their first encounter, trying to legitimize it as a legal shot. In reality, throughout that 9-round fight, there wasn’t a single moment where Dubois clearly dominated.
Since then, Dubois has rebuilt his confidence with quick stoppage wins over Jerrell Miller, Filip Hrgović, and Anthony Joshua.
- Jerrell Miller: Out of the ring for a long time, fought no serious contenders, and came in at a shocking 333 lbs (151.04 kg).
- Filip Hrgović: Never faced top-level opposition. His toughest test, an aging Zhilei Zhang, arguably handed him a controversial win.
- Anthony Joshua: Lacked the hunger and determination he once had, yet still managed to trouble Dubois without getting knocked out.
Dubois’ recent victories appear to have given him false confidence rather than real growth. He relies heavily on his youth and raw power and will likely target Usyk’s body and below the belt — as he did in their first fight. This puts extra responsibility on the referee to control the action strictly.
Usyk’s Only Real Obstacle: Age ⏳🧊
Usyk’s only disadvantage might be his age. Despite being smaller, he has already fought much larger men like Joshua (twice), Dubois, and Fury (twice). Every battle in the ring takes something out of you.
However, Usyk is a true survival expert — a real-life honey badger in boxing gloves. Unless Dubois once again quit, I expect Usyk to win a one-sided decision in this rematch.
Undercard Fights: Tomato Cans Galore? 🍅🥫
The undercard for Usyk vs Dubois II is as follows:
- Lawrence Okolie vs Kevin Lerena
- Daniel Lapin vs Lewis Edmondson
- Lasha Guruli vs James Francis
- Aadam Hamed vs Ezequiel Gregores
- Vladyslav Sirenko vs Solomon Dacres
Unfortunately, the undercard is largely filled with “tomato can” matchups that lack high-level intrigue. If the event featured more elite fighters on the undercard, fan interest would likely be much higher.
Final Thoughts 💭⚖️
Personally, I don’t expect Usyk vs Dubois II to generate massive hype. Still, Dubois holds the IBF belt and technically remains a world champion — so the fight carries significance regardless.
